Marketing · The Barber Ads Playbook · Part 2 of 3

Running the ads, platform by platform.

In Part 1 you set your numbers, picked one offer and made 3–5 ads. Today you put those ads in front of the right people, one setting at a time.

One shop, four ways in A map with a pin on a barbershop and two rings around it marked 5 miles and 8 miles. Dashed lines connect the shop to four small cards: a phone video ad with a Book now button labeled Meta, a search box reading barber near me labeled Google, a booking calendar with a new client slot labeled Booksy, and a short vertical video with a view count labeled TikTok. Booked clients inside the rings are marked with check marks. 5 mi 8 mi Book now META barber near me Ad GOOGLE NEW BOOKSY 12.4K TIKTOK

Your main goal
Do you already have 3–5 good videos?
Has one video beaten 2× your usual views? (slide 11 check)
Do clients book you on Booksy?

    How the four compare.

    How people find you
Scrolling. They weren't looking for a barber. Your video stops them.
    Minimum budget
Small daily budgets are allowed. We start at $10–15 a day.
    How you pay
A daily budget. With our goal (landing page views) you're billed per impression: each time the ad shows on a screen.
    Best for
Showing your work to people within 5–8 miles. First-visit, VIP and kids-cut offers.
    How people find you
Searching. They typed "barber near me" or "fade near me." They want a cut, soon.
    Minimum budget
You set an average daily budget. We start at $10 a day. Google can spend up to 2× on a busy day but no more than 30.4× the daily amount in a month.
    How you pay
Per click. You pay when someone taps your ad or its call button.
    Best for
People ready to book now. Calls and bookings from nearby searches.
    How people find you
Browsing Booksy. Clients searching in the Booksy app or on booksy.com see you higher up.
    Minimum budget
$0 upfront. No monthly Boost fee.
    How you pay
Commission on a new Boost client's first visit only: 30%, up to $100, per Booksy's US pricing page (Oct 2026). Booksy's older posts listed other caps, so check your app.
    Best for
Barbers already on Booksy who want first-timers without spending on ads up front.
    How people find you
Scrolling short videos. Mostly younger clients.
    Minimum budget
Ads Manager: each ad group (a set of ads with its own targeting and budget) needs more than $20 a day. If you set a campaign budget, TikTok requires more than $50 a day; its own FAQ suggests leaving the campaign budget at No Limit. The in-app Promote tool has no published minimum; the app shows your options.
    How you pay
A daily budget. Traffic ads can be bought per click.
    Best for
Ages 18–28, fades and designs, once one of your videos already does well on its own.

The Meta Pixel is a bit of code on your own website that tells Meta when someone lands or taps. Meta now calls the container a dataset. Many site builders have a Meta setting where you paste the ID. No website yet? Skip this; your booking link still works.

    Show the clicks

First mark the tap on your Book button as an event. Meta's point-and-click Event Setup Tool can do it without code. Then:

Pick your dataset and that event, and name it "Book click." Later, you can run ads that optimize for it instead of page views.

    Traffic

The objective is the one job you give Meta. Traffic means "send people to my link," and your link is your booking page. Likes and views don't book chairs; taps on your booking link can.

Later: once your own website has the Meta Pixel and a "Book click" conversion (slide 3), you can test an objective that optimizes for that click.

Meta asks if the ads are about financial products and services, employment, housing, or social issues, elections or politics. Those come with extra rules. A haircut ad is none of them.

Use the street address or a pin, not just your city's name. A radius around a city can't go under +10 miles.

Advantage+ audience means Meta's AI looks for people likely to tap and load your booking page (your performance goal), using your video and early results as clues. Meta can't see who books inside your booking app. You count bookings yourself. Under Audience controls, set the minimum age to 18; that's a hard rule. Your age range goes in as an audience suggestion: a hint, not a wall. Meta can go outside it when it finds better matches.

Meta · The first three weeks

Hands off for 7 days. Then read the numbers.

The first stretch is the learning phase: Meta is still figuring out who to show your ads to, so results bounce around. Big changes now can restart the learning.

    The learning phase50 results

Meta's documentation says an ad set needs about 50 optimization events within 7 days to finish learning. An optimization event is the result you picked: a landing page view. Example: $12 a day for 7 days is $84; at an example $0.90 per view, that's about 93 views.

Jon Loomer, citing Meta's learning-phase docs. Ads Manager shows your own progress. Some accounts have seen a lower bar, and Meta cut it to 10 events for some purchase and app-install campaigns (Madgicx, 2024).

    Days 1–77 days, no edits

Changing the audience, the goal, the ads or the budget by a lot can restart learning. Check two things only: it's spending, and the link opens your booking page.

If Delivery says "Learning limited," the ad set isn't getting enough results to finish. Common at small budgets. Judge it by bookings.

    Days 8–2121 days to judge

Read the five columns below every few days. Log every new client. At 2–3 weeks, decide: keep, fix or stop. Judge by cost per new client, not likes.

Our rules of thumb, not Meta's: Keep = at or under your target. Fix = up to 1.5× your target, or no bookings yet with less than 2× your target spent. Stop = more than 1.5× your target, or no bookings after 2× your target. About $1.50 per click is high for local video ads, fewer than 3 in 100 clickers booking points at the booking page or offer, and frequency over about 3 means people are tired of the video. Already there? Google may have made a call conversion for you, named "Call from ads." If you see it, open it and set the call length instead of making a second one.

    Google Ads · Keywords

Keywords: the searches you pay to show up for.

A keyword is a search you want your ad on. A negative keyword keeps your ad off searches you don't want, like barber school or barber jobs. Build both lists below, then paste them into Google.

    barber near me

Broad match. No marks. Google treats your words as a starting point and can put your ad on any search it thinks is in the same family, even one that doesn't use your words. For a barber, that drifts fast: hair salons, clipper reviews, how to cut your own hair. Too loose for $10 a day. We skip it to start.

    "fade near me"

Phrase match. Quotes. The search has to be about the same thing as your keyword, and people can add words before or after it. So this keyword can catch best fade near me or skin fade barber near me open now. Our main match type: wide enough to find people, tight enough to stay on haircuts.

    [kids haircut near me]

Exact match. Square brackets. The tightest fence: the search has to ask for the same thing your keyword asks for. Plurals and small rewordings still count, like kids haircuts near me or haircut for kids near me, but kids haircut ideas doesn't. Use it for the searches that pay you.

Google is the judge of what counts as "the same thing." Every week, open the search terms report (the real searches that showed your ad) and add negatives for anything that isn't a haircut client.

Keep the 15–30 keywords you'd bet on. On $10 a day, a short, tight list beats a long one (our rule of thumb).

    Try it · Negative keywords

    Keep out the wrong searches.

These block barber-school searchers, job seekers and do-it-yourselfers. Negatives don't catch plurals or synonyms, so some come in pairs. We use barber school and barber jobs, not plain school or jobs, so "back to school haircut" and "haircut for a job interview" still find you. Two-word negatives go in quotes, so only that exact phrase is blocked. Clipper starts off because it would block "clipper cut near me." Tap a word to turn it on or off.

    Negatives · 0 words

Paste into the campaign's Negative keywords box. In the regular keyword box, a minus sign in front marks a negative.

Google Ads · Write the ad

Write the Google ad: 15 headlines, 4 descriptions.

Google's responsive search ad works like this: you give it up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, and it mixes them to fit each search. Fill in your details, tap the button for suggestions, then make them yours. The counters turn red past the limit.

    Step 3 · Assets

Sitelinks and callouts · 25 characters each

Sitelinks are extra links under your ad. Each one needs its own link, like your booking page's services, VIP or reviews section. Callouts are short selling points that aren't links.

Call asset: your shop number, verified (slide 7, step 12), shown during open hours. Location asset: link your Google Business Profile (Assets › + › Location › Our locations).

Copy-ready · paste into Google Ads

    Your ad, ready to paste.

Don't pin. Google lets you pin a headline to a spot, but says pinning isn't recommended for most advertisers. Let it mix. Only say "5-star reviews" if it's true, and say your price: it filters out people who'd balk at it.

    Booksy Boost

Booksy Boost: pay only when it brings someone new.

Boost moves your profile higher in Booksy's own search: the Booksy app and booksy.com. There's no monthly fee. You pay a cut of a brand-new client's first visit, and nothing after that.

Checked Oct 2026 Buttons move. If a menu looks different, search the setting name in the app's Help.

    How it works
    1. What it does

Higher placement in Booksy's search, a spot in its recommended galleries and a "Booksy Recommended" badge on your profile.

    2. How you pay

Booksy's US pricing page: 30% of a Boost client's first visit, up to $100. The tip is yours. Booksy's older posts listed other caps, so check your app for your exact terms before you turn it on.

    3. Who counts

Clients who book you for the first time through Boost. Booksy says clients who come from your own social media don't come through Boost. Every visit after the first is 100% yours.

    4. Turn it on

      Booksy Biz appMarketingBoostTurn On

Look for Boost under Marketing. Booksy's older posts show it under More, so your version may differ. Or tap Enable Boost on Booksy's Boost page. You can stop it any time. Check your screen.

Boost puts you higher; your profile still has to win the booking. Photos of your work, clear prices, add-ons you can tap, and real reviews (Part 1's foundation).

Other booking apps have their own marketplace fees for new clients. Read your app's terms and put its numbers in the calculator.

Defaults are Tyler's example numbers from Part 1 ($58 first ticket, half come back about 8 more times at $55). "Would have found you anyway" covers clients who'd have booked you in Booksy's search without Boost; raise it and each truly new client costs more. Example numbers, not promises.

    TikTok

TikTok: pay to push what's already working.

TikTok rewards videos people already like. So it's not where you start. It's where you go when one of your videos takes off on its own, and then you put money behind that video.

Checked Oct 2026 Buttons move. If a menu looks different, search the setting name in the app's Help.

Try it · Ready for TikTok?

    Check your best video.

Our rule of thumb: a video at 2× your usual views or more has earned some money behind it. Not TikTok's rule.

    Your video⋯Promote

Not there? Look for Promote in TikTok Studio or Business Suite (the menu button on your profile).

Promote is TikTok's in-app tool. Pick a video, a goal, who sees it, a budget and how many days. Goals come in groups: Boost account (more video views, followers, profile views), Get leads and Get sales (more website visits).

Minimum: TikTok doesn't publish one for Promote. The app shows your budget options when you set it up.

Use it for: a 3–7 day test of a video that's already beating your usual views.

    TikTok Ads ManagerCreateObjectiveManual campaign

The full tool: ZIP-code targeting, schedules, several ads, tracking. Choose a Manual campaign so every setting is yours to pick.

Budget: the ad group needs more than $20 a day. If you set a campaign budget, TikTok requires more than $50 a day. TikTok's own FAQ suggests leaving the campaign budget at No Limit. Check your screen.

While it's learning, raise budgets no more than 40% at a time and wait at least two days between changes. After learning, TikTok says no more than 30% at a time.

Use it for: Spark Ads on a proven video, once you can give it more than $20 a day.

    Walkthrough · Spark Ads

Turn your best post into an ad.

Spark Ads are ads made from a real post on your TikTok. The views, likes and comments stay on the post.

    Step 1 · pick

Pick the video that already won

The post that beat your usual views by 2× or more, with real comments. That's your proof people want to watch it. It must be 10 minutes or shorter to spark.

Step 2 · in the TikTok app

    Get the post's code

    Your video⋯Ad settingsGenerate

Pick how long the code lasts. Make it long enough for your whole test.

Step 3 · in Ads Manager

Add the post to your ad

AdAd creatives+ Add videos or imagesTikTok postsAdd post

Paste the code. You can authorize up to 20 codes at once. The post's caption can't be edited after it's authorized, so fix typos first.

    Step 4 · destination

Point it at your booking link

Objective Traffic, destination your booking link with a tag (utm_source=tiktok, Part 3). Location: the ZIP codes around your shop (below).

    Step 5 · publish

    Publish, then let it learn

TikTok says most ads are reviewed within 24 hours. Then hands off: change budgets no more than 40% at a time while it learns (30% after), two days apart.

Location · how tight it gets

ZIP codes stand in for a radius.

In the US, TikTok targets by country, state, DMA (a TV market area, like the whole Houston area), county, city or ZIP code. TikTok's help lists no radius option for the US, so list the ZIP codes around your shop.
